Distinguished Teacher Cal Moppins

What advice would you give to people considering a career in teaching?

Remember to breathe. The first year of teaching can be really tense. Between all of the required paperwork and added responsibilities, you often forget to take a deep breath and think. It gets better with time, so seek out others who are getting it done and ask for their assistance in overcoming any obstacles. The trials we endure during the first year help us grow as educators and help form the foundation that we will build our career on.

What's the best thing about teaching?

The best thing about teaching is watching my students achieve goals that they previously thought were unreachable. After these accomplishments they begin to gain confidence and start to see that they are capable of doing much more than they originally thought. They not only begin to learn, they begin to believe in themselves.
