About Us

TEACH California is a Web site administered by the California Department of Education (CDE). With the understanding that California faces a great shortage of special education, mathematics, and science teachers, the site is designed to explain the teacher preparation process, assist prospective teachers in creating their plan to become credentialed teachers, and offer links to important resources. The CDE is pleased to support and further develop TEACH California, whose original design and structure was created by CalTeach (California Center for Teaching Careers), a program administered by the California State University Chancellor's Office.

The mission of the California Department of Education is to provide leadership, assistance, oversight and resources so that every Californian has access to an education that meets world-class standards. The purpose of the Special Education Division at the CDE is to provide information and resources to serve the unique needs of individuals with disabilities so that each person will meet or exceed high standards of achievement in academic and non-academic skills.

TEACH California is a special project of the California Department of Education, Special Education Division and is partially funded from federal funds, State Grants #H027A080116A. Additional federal funds are provided from a federal competitively awarded State Personnel Development Grant to California (#H323A070011) provided from the U.S. Department of Education Part D of the Individuals with Disabilities Education act (IDEA).
