What advice would you give to people considering a career in teaching?
Make sure that you like spending time with kids! Get as much experience with as many different age groups as possible, you never know where you will find your best fit. Listen! -to students, to teachers, to families, to administrators, and to everyone involved in this field. There are so many concerns and points of view attached to those concerns that you don't know what will really resonate with you until you hear it, and when you do hear something that inspires you, follow that inspiration.
What's the best thing about teaching?
The best thing is sharing what you know (and researching together what you don't know) with students and families to help them accomplish their goals. Finding a way to help empower students with vision impairment is amazing, and teaching them how to solve the problems that they encounter in school and in life involves skills that are both basic and beautiful life skills! My goal is that by high school my students don't need me.
