Distinguished Teacher Diana Matteson

What advice would you give to people considering a career in teaching?

Collaborate with seasoned teachers who know what they are doing and can guide you in ways of teaching that will keep you organized and focused. Be consistent with your students by following through on what you expect from them and what you will deliver. Don't sweat the small stuff, you will make mistakes, you will realize there was a better way to go about doing something and you chose a completely different path. It's okay, learn from those mistakes and correct them and move on.

What's the best thing about teaching?

Having fun with my students while learning at the same time. The ability to help a child achieve, or to see them find interest in a subject because of something you have done, is very rewarding.
