Distinguished Teacher Mariko Wesley-Fagundes

What advice would you give to people considering a career in teaching?

The first two years are like getting into a loaded washer and going around in the spin cycle with the suds and the wet laundry hitting you in the face. When you come out on the other side, you will feel like a human being again. Don't let the first few years stop you if it is what you really love to do!

What's the best thing about teaching?

The unexpected lesson waits in my room every day. Some days it's even taught by me. Most days it's me doing the learning.
