What advice would you give to people considering a career in teaching?
New teachers need to show that they truly care about their students and believe they can learn. Give respect to get respect. Remember that we and all students learn new things. We need to be willing to learn from our students. Apologize, yes, to your students when you are wrong.
What's the best thing about teaching?
The best thing about teaching is seeing the light bulb turn on and seeing that huge smile on your student's face when they know they understand a concept. Making a difference in all students' lives is priceless. After 21 years of teaching in special education, I still LOVE my job.
