How Can You Find Out What Teaching Is Really Like?

Sometimes you have to actually try doing something to find out if you like it.

• See if one of your teachers will let you help out as a teaching assistant or look into volunteering with a tutoring program. You can also join a Project Tomorrow, Educators Rising student group or service learning program that includes tutoring activities.

• Look into becoming a paraeducator in your local school district especially if you have an associate degree.
• Start substitute teaching if you already have a baccalaureate degree. It is a great way to get some experience in the classroom before completing the requirements for a credential.
