Changing Careers to Get Vocational Education Credential

If you would like to use your knowledge and experience from another vocation to become a teacher, you may be able to apply for preliminary vocational credential.

Unchecked check box Have at least one year of the required work experience, or equivalents listed below, within the three years immediately preceding the issuance of the preliminary credential. (Teaching is not generally accepted as work experience.) Any of the following, or a combination of the following, may be cumulated to total 1,500 clock hours: +work experience +college-level related course work +non-college related course work +occupational internship +career technical education teaching experience
Unchecked check box One of the following: +possess a high school diploma +possess a diploma based on passage of the GED Test +possess the foreign equivalent of a high school diploma
Unchecked check box Pass a course (at least two semester units) on the provisions and principles of the U.S. Constitution. **OR** Pass an examination on the provisions and principles of the U.S. Constitution at a regionally accredited community college, college, or university.
Unchecked check box Obtain verification, signed by a Commission-accredited Local Education Agency, or by an Employing School District authorized to do so in accordance with guidelines established by the Commission, that you have been fully apprised of the requirements for both the Preliminary and Clear credentials, including Level I Education Specialist and Level II Education Specialist requirements of the program of personalized preparation.
