Well, to be a teacher, a good teacher, it really takes one thing: you truly have to be able to relate to the kids and be able to read them, because they come in with all sorts of things happening outside. The world is not always kind to eighth graders. You have to be creative. You have to be innovative, meaning you have to figure out what materials you have that you can use to explain and explore. You have to be able to find different ways of teaching it, not just one way, because you have anywhere from 38 to 40 kids in the classroom and you have to be able to break it down into small chunks, your concepts into small chunks, so they’re understandable to the kids.
